System Context
Clovers is an interview intelligence platform that integrates with Zoom to provide real-time interview assistance, structured question guides, and collaborative feedback tools.
The platform surfaces candidate context, role-specific interview questions, and feedback capture directly within the Zoom interface during live calls.
Structural Problems
Hiring teams faced several pain points in their interview process:
- Inconsistent interviews: Different interviewers asked different questions, making it hard to compare candidates fairly
- Poor preparation: Interviewers often went into calls without reviewing resumes or preparing questions
- Lost feedback: Interview notes were scattered across different tools and often lost
- Coordination gaps: Teams didn't know what previous interviewers had already covered

System Components
The Clovers Zoom App runs alongside Zoom meetings as an integrated interview companion. Key components include:
- Smart Interview Guides: Role-specific question templates that ensure consistency across all interviewers
- Candidate Profiles: One-click access to resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and previous interview notes
- Real-time Feedback: Capture thoughts and ratings during the interview without switching apps
- Team Collaboration: See what previous interviewers asked and their assessments
- React
- TypeScript
- Zoom Apps SDK
- Node.js
- PostgreSQL
Architecture & Tradeoffs
Building a Zoom App presented specific constraints. The app runs in a sandboxed iframe within Zoom's desktop and web clients, requiring attention to:
- Performance: The app needed to load instantly and never slow down the video call
- Security: Handling sensitive candidate data required robust authentication and encryption
- UX constraints: Limited screen real estate meant every pixel had to count
We built the frontend with React and TypeScript, optimizing for minimal bundle size and instant interactivity. The backend API was built with Node.js, with PostgreSQL for persistent storage of interview data and feedback.
